Delivering on our DEI Commitments
Our global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategy is based on five pillars.
Accountability
We hold ourselves accountable with ambitious, attainable metrics by identifying published
and internal goals* to guide our progress, using data to analyze and track our progress and by
educating and inspiring all of our people to make meaningful investments in their colleagues to
make progress towards these goals.
Processes
Institutional change is our focus as we strive to identify and apply a DEI lens to every firm
process, and ensure that development, sponsorship, and mentorship opportunities are equally
accessible to underrepresented colleagues.
Recruitment and Retention
We want the best and brightest talent at all levels, and take a comprehensive approach to get
there including through new lawyer and lateral hiring, working with our recruiters on our DEI
expectations, and in providing development, sponsorship and mentoring opportunities.
Culture
Inclusive culture is the bedrock of our firm. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a sense of
belonging and can be their authentic selves in the workplace. Given our strong commitment to
DEI, the firm encourages participation in DEI activities through billable hours credit and other
forms of recognition, alongside education, training, allyship, building strong internal networks,
team building and transformational leadership.
Clients
Providing excellent client service is what we do at Hogan Lovells. We deliver on that promise by
offering diverse, high-performing client teams that anticipate and find solutions for our client’s
most demanding and complex problems, including collaborating in DEI initiatives that allow
us to make more meaningful impact. We are able to do this because of the unique and varied
experiences and perspective of our individual team members.
*Global goals for racial and ethnic diversity and LGBTQ+ comprise the U.S. and UK only owing to legal restrictions.
Why we added Equity
to our name
Equality and equity are not the same. Equality
means treating everyone the same whilst equity is
about treating people according to their individual
needs. We believe when our dialogues, processes,
and policies centre around addressing equity first
and foremost, the result for our people is equity
and inclusion. Hence, we formally added Equity to
our name, becoming Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
