A lesson on a Christmas carol or hymn in Latin, e.g., Dormi Jesu,
Adeste Fideles, gives pupils an opportunity to draw on their
collective linguistic resources to arrive at an English translation.
This is a highly motivating activity that pupils engage in with
enthusiasm; it is empowering for them to realize that working
with your peers you can understand a language that you have
not learned.
•
A class newspaper with articles (and their translations) in
English, Irish, the MFL and HLs.
•
Create multilingual posters on a variety of topics: healthy eating,
exercise, anti-smoking, climate change, recipes, time, etc. (Figure
32).
•
Pupils can work collaboratively to produce versions of folktales
from Ireland and EAL pupils’ countries of origin in two or more
languages (Figure 33).
•
Pupils can write a timetable for events during the school day
(Figure 34).
