Though global attention like this
appears to be good news,
Indigenous peoples continue to
remain cautious and vigilant, as
similar global policy efforts have
historically inflicted devastating
colonization, extraction, genocide,
and abject denial of Indigenous
peoples’ rights and sovereignty. If
there is any hope of achieving just
and effective solutions, the world
must address these historical
ongoing injustices and embed the
rights, participation, and roles of
Indigenous peoples moving forward.
