Cyber Explorers
SCQF Credit Rated learning programme
In the pursuit of providing high-quality education to students, educators are continually
seeking innovative tools and programmes to enrich learning experiences. Amongst these,
Cyber Explorers, an initiative led by the UK Government, emerges as a trailblazer, offering
students an interactive, fun and accessible introduction to cyber security.
Recognised quality
The quality of the Cyber Explorers
learning content is underscored by its
SCQF credit rating from the Scottish
Qualification Authority (SQA), a
testament to its quality and rigor.
This recognition instils confidence in
learners, educators and employers,
affirming Cyber Explorers as a
valuable asset in the educational
landscape.
Tailored for teachers and students
You don’t need to be a cyber security
expert to introduce this learning
programme to your students.
Designed as a gamified learning
environment, students go on an
exciting adventure through cyber
security scenarios, challenges, and
missions. Developed by tech training
company QA and in collaboration
with industry experts, Cyber Explorers
stands out for its adaptability to
in-school and at-home accessibility,
is multi-device compatible and is
available in both English and Welsh.
Everything is provided; the online
content is self-paced allowing students
to work through it at their own speed
and it comes with comprehensive
lesson plans tailored to engage
diverse learning styles. With lively
discussion topics, online quizzes,
worksheets and offline activities,
teachers find themselves equipped
with dynamic resources to enhance
classroom learning and inspire the
next generation of cyber defenders.
Complementing the UK
curriculum
Divided into entry-level Challenges
and advanced Missions, Cyber
Explorers aligns with Key Stage
3 objectives in England, Wales,
Northern Ireland, and S2/S3 in
Scotland. Set in the intriguing realm of
Cyber City, students’ team up with the
Cyber Ranger to thwart the notorious
Herbert the Hacker, striving to join
the Cyber Squad by showcasing their
commitment to creating a safer digital
world.
Students completing the learning
content earn the following:
• Cyber Explorers - Cyber Squad
Member (SCQF Level 4) earned by
completing the Challenges.
• Cyber Explorers - Cyber Champion
(SCQF Level 5) earned by completing
the Missions.
The programme also offers free
one-hour virtual activity workshops
facilitated by the Cyber Explorers Team
where students are introduced to key
cyber security concepts and careers.
Shaping future cyber security
leaders
Launched in 2022, the programme
helps foster interest in cyber security,
an industry with an increasingly large
demand for talent. Cyber Explorers
lets students explore a career that
will challenge them positively while
building important digital skills.
David Gray from the Royal Belfast
Academical institution in Northern
Ireland echoes the sentiments of many
educators, praising Cyber Explorers
for its role in shaping the career
aspirations of students.
“Cyber Explorers is fantastic for
engaging our students. It allows them
to find an area of cyber security they’re
interested in and design a route that
suits them. We are starting to see
students at Key Stage 3 who would have
originally said that they wanted a career
in IT, now specifying what field they want
to specifically work in cyber - especially
after using the Cyber Explorers
platform.”
