The Adria
Tucked away on the side of Queens Gate, is the lovely, boutique-gem-ofa-hotel called The Adria. It has a luxurious streak that runs e昀昀ortlessly
and sleekly all around its impressive and capacious townhouse interiors
. Most conveniently, it is equidistant from both Gloucester Road and
South Kensington tubes almost to a tee and this prime location makes it
an ideal place to plan visits within the Royal Borough and Central London. The Adria reopened on 24th January 2022 following a £1 million
restoration and houses 22 exquisite rooms and suites with six communal spaces including lounges, games room, breakfast room, and private
terrace. Uniquely, all rooms and suites are a昀昀orded a name and guests
merely need to press the 昀椀rst letter of their room to get to the desired
昀氀oor. My suite was the Kensington perched majestically on the 3rd 昀氀oor
from a total of four.
The experience begins with a discrete entrance which sets the trend
for a stay at the hotel. Guests are essentially invited in after they ring
the doorbell. Having arrived a bit earlier than expected, I was greeted and welcomed with utmost aplomb by their wonderfully gracious
Finnish manager Wesse. I was escorted to the super-plush sofa within
the welcome lounge and a昀昀orded a warm co昀昀ee and a little history of
this brilliant hotel. Katara Hospitality owns The Adria and it is a global
hotel owner, developer and operator, based in Qatar. With 50 years’
experience in the industry and being owners of over forty properties
all around the world, Arab hospitality abounds, a fact re昀氀ected in my
interaction with one of the other sta昀昀 members – Salma! There is a
much appreciated sense of relaxation around the place which re昀氀ects its
perfect amalgamation of luxury and homeliness.
The Kensington Suite is simply outstanding. Facing the iconic Queens
Gate on the living side, the bathroom faces the quitter Stanhope Gardens with an ample window just above the roomy bath. The 昀氀oors look
brand-spanking new from the refurbishment and there is a handy TV
to stretch out and enjoy within the solid marble bath. Beautiful frozen
glass doors lead to an excellent shower toom and Bamford toiletries,
personally one of my favourite brands!
The four poster, super-comfortable bed is the centrepiece within the
main area but quirky artwork and other beauties within the furniture
scape such as an adorable chest of drawers lights up the living space. I
was informed that the two signature suites also have a 昀椀replace! The
Kensington Suite within The Adria was a joy to be in and its character
shone through the entire stay.
In terms of food, unique partnerships with known entities such as
Daylesford and Dishoom ensure that guest do not miss out on top class
meals whilst a scrumptious breakfast and wonderful Afternoon Tea is
served in either of the hotel’s lounges. These spaces are also perfect setting to meet and play and include a games room, a light breakfast room
and a secluded winter garden.
The Adria is a hidden gem waiting for KCR readers to be discovered
right in their backyard. Its unique, discrete stay o昀昀erings start from
£300 per room, per night for a superior bedroom on a B&B basis.
