Welcome to issue 37 of Conservation and Heritage Journal
In this issue we feature some amazing work including, the iconic Grade II Listed Art Deco ‘Shell-Mex
House’, this London landmark has been transformed into a vibrant and flexible multi-tenanted space to
meet the needs and desires of the modern worker.
Glass and Glazing is featured with Ion Glass showcasing the many bespoke solutions for older buildings that
will improve the functionality as well as the style.
Tatra Glass is widely known in the glass industry for importing and supplying traditional mouth blown and
machine drawn, coloured and clear restoration glass. They are passionate about the correct period glass being
used in restoration projects. Their restoration glass has been supplied to Grade I and II listed properties, iconic
country estates, Royal Palaces, National Trust and English Heritage properties up and down the UK. It is also
acknowledged by relevant historical and planning bodies as an authentic substitute to maintain the aesthetics
of facades for period properties. We also profile trained glass artist and artisan Nathalie Hildegarde Liege and
Lee Bilson, Conservation Manager at Recclesia displays their work at Manchester Town Hall.
Also the new glazing at Ledston Hall, located on the outskirts of Leeds, dates back to the 11th Century and
was originally built as a Grange and Chapel by the monks of Pontefract Priory. Ledston Hall gained its Grade I
listed status in 1952 due to its impressive architecture and bold history.
Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, The Brighton Hippodrome and the Old War Office in London have all
benefited from the expertise of decorative Plaster craft specialist, Artisan, using traditional methods to
conserve the historic fabric of the buildings.
The restoration of Boston Manor House has seen the rescue and redemption of a neglected Grade I-listed
manor house – one of London’s true hidden gems - resulting in its triumphant removal from the Heritage at
Risk Register.
Design team Unusual Expo have been delivering imaginative projects since the mid 1980s with experience
across museums, heritage, events and attractions, especially within the Heritage sector.
The Royal Air Force Museum is featured and are proud to announce it has been awarded investment
from The National Lottery Heritage Lottery Fund for its Inspiring Everyone: RAF Museum Midlands
Development Programme.
