and having more experience...I’m certainly just as
confused in the world, but I’ve had more experiences.
That makes me quieter. I don’t think it does that to
everybody, but being a quiet person is more to my
nature.”
For Kiki Smith, art is an experience. The nuanced and
tactile nature of her work is something to experience
rather than simply see. And the experience is a visual
journey—both externally with the materials and
internally with one’s own emotions—that remains with
the viewer, reverberating, animated. ☐

Art Institute. She has worked for three prominent San Francisco
fine art galleries. Additionally, she has provided art consulting
for private and corporate collections, including Google. She is
