Prior learning
Children are likely to have already explored the grammatical forms in use in this lesson and are now
applying them to a new writing genre.
Children will be familiar with a range of different text forms. The Guinness World Records book will
provide a new example of a nonfiction or reference text.
Children may be familiar with 8world records9. They are less likely to be familiar with these specific
individuals or their particular strengths.
Children should be familiar with drafting and editing their ideas and adding in set grammatical elements
against an objective.
The spellings highlighted here are typical spellings from a year 3 and 4 spelling list, which pupils may or
may not have covered before, meaning this activity might be a new focus or it might be a consolidation
activity.
