Blackfoot Family Lodge’s Soaring Hearts housing project provides a stable environment where women can
access life- and work-skills programming.
Program Spotlight: Building
a Sustainable Future for
Indigenous Women, Blackfoot
Family Lodge Society,
Lethbridge, Alberta
Blackfoot Family Lodge offers transitional
housing to support Indigenous women and
their children who have migrated to the
city. The program helps women focus on
sustainable futures by providing access to
childcare, life- and work-skills development,
counselling, and activities rooted in Blackfoot
traditions with support from elders and peers.
It offers a new start for Blackfoot women and
their children. Some of them may be starting
jobs or attending school. Others may be
fleeing difficult circumstances and looking for
safety and stability.
“We hope to create
a safe and stable
community where
they help each
other and inspire
their children to be
respectful and kind.”
– Mary Ann Crow Healy, Executive
Director, Blackfoot Family Lodge
Society
