Q& A
OL I V E R
NOY
A昀琀er an eighteen year career with the Army Air Corps, Oliver
昀椀nished his service in early 2021. At that time he did not come
directly to Lycetts although he says personal 昀椀nance has always
interested him.
Olly grew up in Hertfordshire and spent his early years helping with arable
operations on the family farm. From there he went away to school in
Rutland before reading Natural Sciences at Durham University.
A year in the chemicals and precious metals industry followed, where Olly
worked for Johnson Matthey making prototype auto catalysts. Deciding
that he still needed the outdoors, he applied for a commission in the British
Army and with zero aviation experience managed to ‘bluff’ his way into the
Army Air Corps. He served all over the world including operational tours of
Northern Ireland, Afghanistan, Iraq, and East Timor, as well as overseas
postings in Germany, Australia, and Canada. Following Staff College and a
postgraduate course in Battlespace Technology, he served at Army
Headquarters, helping deliver Defence Equipment programmes.
On completion of his commission, he considered the aviation industry
but Covid had put many commercial pilots out of work. With a family to
support, aviation did not seem to be a sensible bet, and luckily Olly was
selected for the Amazon Leadership Academy. He subsequently worked
with Amazon Logistics for six months before making the move to
Financial Services.
A CAREER IN FINANCIAL SERVICES
Through a friend he was introduced to Lycetts where he was offered the
opportunity to gain some direct industry experience, initially as an
administrator. Since then, he has completed his Level 4 qualifications with
both the London Institute for Banking and Finance and the Chartered
Insurance Institute and is now a trainee financial adviser, with hopes of
achieving professional competence in early 2024. In the meantime, he has
been working on a number of projects which ‘feed into various aspects of
what Lycetts Financial Services does’.
A former army helicopter pilot with
extensive operational experience, Olly is
the reigning Calf Roping Champion of
the Ralston Rodeo in Alberta, Canada.
Olly has high praise for his fantastic colleagues at Lycetts and appreciates
the experienced and approachable leadership. He is looking forward to the
next phase for the company, especially following the move to Bank House.
He particularly enjoys the ethos which, he says, is founded on a deep sense
of integrity, and encourages a ‘work hard, play hard’ attitude, where time
in the office is actually ‘good fun’.

Olly, his wife Jenny, and their two children, George and Rosie, moved to
the north east to be closer to Jenny’s family. They have two energetic dogs
(one a rescue) and spend a lot of time walking them ‘in an attempt to tire
them out’. They also love exploring the local area as much as they can:
the last adventure was ghyll-scrambling in the Lake District. Kayaking,
shooting and skiing are also occasional pastimes, with spare time spent
volunteering for the RNLI.
