The Wildlife Trusts
2023 marked the end of Hogan Lovells’
four-year partnership with The Wildlife
Trusts, a grassroots movement of 46
individual charities with a shared vision
of nature in recovery. The Wildlife Trusts
are supported by people from a wide
range of backgrounds, including over
900,000 members and 35,000 volunteers.
Over the course of the partnership,
Hogan Lovells provided 1,300 hours of
pro bono legal advice, equating to over
£840,000 of free in-kind support.
The HL BaSE team worked on a number
of projects with The Wildlife Trusts,
including advising Manx Wildlife Trust
(MWT) on securing funding for native
woodland forestation on the Isle of
Man. Through the support provided by
HL BaSE, MWT reached an agreement
for a 5-year commitment from three
private funders. The establishment of
this woodland will enrich biodiversity,
improve water retention and allow for the
natural sequestration of carbon, while the
generation of carbon credits on the plot
will ensure its sustainability and longevity.
Investment and capacity building
between the private sector and NGOs
is crucial for tackling the nature and
climate emergencies. Support from HL
helped Manx Wildlife Trust to pioneer
a model on the Island that can open the
door for similar projects in the future.
