AMOS W. BARNUM HOUSE

This large white, flat-topped house was owned by an
early resident — Amos W. Barnum — who came to
Vergennes in 1809. He was active in civic affairs, serving
as an alderman, legislator and mayor. He had many
business interests, including livestock breeding, a hemp
factory, the Tow Path Co., Vergennes Aqueduct Co. and
iron mining. His home was a showplace with running
