Q& A
TIM
SL I NGE R
A Lancastrian who made the move to Yorkshire, Tim’s life is
firmly rooted in the North of England.
Born in Lancashire, his early life revolved around the family dairy farm
where he spent weekends helping at milking and working with sheep. He
completed his sixth form at Runshaw College where he played rugby for
North of England Students and then went on to Newcastle University to
read Maths and Economics. After a year he changed course to Agri Business
Management and, as a result, had to re-start and study another three years
to gain his degree.
This was not the only re-start Tim has had to deal with. After leaving college
he was involved in a serious car accident which left him with blood clots in
the lungs meaning that he had to give up rugby. With an ebullient approach
to life, however, he did not give up on sport and, with the help of
medication, now rides and skis with an astounding level of energy and
commitment.
A CAREER IN INSURANCE
Tim has become a passionate Three-Day
Event rider, travelling the country
supporting his wife, who competes
professionally at 5-star level.
After graduation, Tim fell straight into insurance, working for R K Harrison
(RKH) within their Yorkshire office, alongside Edmund Sword. After two
years, Edmund moved to Lycetts, but Tim stayed on at RKH, completing a
further eight years with them and rising to Regional Director in the North of
England. While he enjoyed working with Farm and Estate clients, as his
passion for horses grew, he was keen to expand the scope of his client base
to include equestrian businesses and high net worth individuals. To that
end, he approached Lycetts and started at the Yorkshire office in
September 2023 rejoining his former colleague, Edmund Sword. Tim gained
his Cert CII qualification at RKH and is currently working towards his Dip CII.
He relishes his new role as Associate Director and continues to enjoy
working with Farm and Estate clients but has already managed to start
expanding his client base. Describing the Lycetts ethos as ‘more than just
insurance’ he is full of praise for the way he is able to now develop a career
with a wider scope of clients.

It is not an overstatement to say that the single most important event in
Tim’s life was meeting his wife, professional eventer Rachael, six years ago.
Through her he found his ‘complete and utter life’s passion’ which is horses,
although we would assume he is equally committed to his lovely wife and
daughter Winnie! As a talented 5-star event rider and Master of the Bedale
Hunt, Rachael’s equine obsession became Tim’s and he went from a
complete novice to a regular on the trail hunting field on a horse called
Knees and he also hunts and competes on his horse Demetrius at 2-star
level eventing.
A typical day for Tim involves getting up at 6.00 a.m. and mucking out ten
horses before making his way to the office.
