REGIONS
AMAZONIA
In 2021, we contributed to implementation of
the self-determined vision of 23 Indigenous
organizations and their trusted partner NGOs.
The implementation of the vision for
Indigenous partners included advancing
the protection and monitoring of their
territories. Indigenous partners from
the Tumucumaque, Zo’é, Javari, Raposa
Serra do Sol Indigenous lands in Brazil,
South Rupununi District Council in
Guyana, and Yaigojé Apaporis
Indigenous Reserve in Colombia
established or strengthened existing
Indigenous monitors, patrolling teams,
and firefighting teams thus increasing
the protection of their lands.
Nia Tero’s partners also worked on
maintaining strong cultural practices
crucial for maintaining vibrant cultures
and healthy territories. For example,
Tropenbos worked with knowledge-

focused on skill-building opportunities
for Indigenous organizations in
communications.
This year we continued to support
legal action of Indigenous peoples in

Rights Bill to the National Assembly of
Suriname, which is now going through
a review process by lawmakers and is
being followed up closely by the
