Part 2: SMART Goals for ERG Initiatives
1. Brainstorm ERG goals:
Based on the SWOT analysis, brainstorm 3–4 key goals the ERG can
work toward over the next 6–12 months.
2. Apply the SMART framework:
For each goal, make sure it is specific, measurable, achievable,
relevant, and time-bound:
Specific: Clearly state what you want to accomplish (e.g., Host
quarterly diversity workshops for team leads).
Measurable: Identify metrics to track progress (e.g., Minimum 25
attendees per workshop).
Achievable: Confirm that the goal is feasible with current resources
(e.g., Plan a quarterly workshop within the existing budget and staff
availability).
Relevant: Link the goal to the ERG’s mission or broader company
goals (e.g., Establish mentorship pairings that align with company
initiatives in employee growth and retention).
Time-bound: Set a deadline or timeline for completion (e.g., Host
the first networking event by the end of Q2).
3. Assign responsibilities and resources:
Determine who will take the lead on each goal.
Outline any resources or support needed to achieve the goal (e.g.,
budget, materials, personnel).
Follow-Up:
After the activity, gather feedback from the team and finalize the mission
statement and goals in a document that can be shared with all ERG
members. Regularly review and adjust goals as needed to ensure they
continue to align with the ERG’s evolving needs and mission.
