Family Holidays
If students are going on a family holiday abroad (about 75% of families go on a summer
holiday) their families should consider going to the Target Language country. There are
different options for different budgets, hotels are typically a more expensive option, and
camping tends to be a less expensive option.
• Spain is one of the most popular destinations for Irish tourists; Italy and France are also popular.
• Germany is not popular for Irish tourists, with the exception of city breaks to Berlin and Oktoberfest trips to Munich, but it is a
very large country with everything from coastal regions to the Alps, and some really beautiful areas in between.
• Austria and Switzerland are also great holiday destinations.
Students could be set the task of researching holidays in the Target Language country, perhaps even with a
presentation for parents, with the very real goal of encouraging parents to go there for their summer holiday.
