IMPLEMENTATION STEP 5: NAME THE GROUP
The name of the ERG should reflect the group’s mission and values and should
be decided upon collaboratively.
In order to make this decision, we suggest the following activities:
1. Solicit name recommendations from the group
☐ Create a shared document or online form for name submissions.
☐ Set a deadline for submissions to ensure timely decision-making.
2. Hold a meeting to discuss ideas
☐ Schedule a brainstorming session with all interested members.
☐ Encourage open discussion and collaboration on name ideas.
☐ Take notes on all suggestions for future reference.
3. Choose a name that reflects the group’s purpose and values
☐ Review all submitted names and shortlist the best options.
☐ Facilitate a voting process for group members to select their preferred name.
4. Ensure the name communicates the mission clearly and is interesting enough
to make someone want to learn more or join
☐ Evaluate each shortlisted name against the ERG’s mission statement.
☐ Seek feedback from a few individuals outside the group to gauge their
understanding of the name.
5. Once the name of the group is chosen, send an interoffice email to inform staff
that there is a new Employee Resource Group available. For your convenience,
you can customize this email using the following template link:
