Economic Empowerment: Alabama Power
fuels rural healthcare renaissance
In just one remarkable year, University Medical
Center (UMC) Livingston, a collaborative effort
between the University of Alabama, the University
of West Alabama, the city of Livingston (Ala.), Sumter
County (Ala.), Alabama Power and the Alabama
Power Foundation, has significantly enhanced
healthcare accessibility in West Alabama.
Providing crucial primary care services to an
underserved rural community, UMC Livingston
utilizes telemedicine and digital resources to
connect residents with medical specialists beyond
its immediate vicinity. In its first three months, the
facility saw more than 800 patients.

This initiative not only improves the quality of life
for residents but also enhances the region’s appeal to
businesses by expanding healthcare options.
