Phase 2: S.O.L.E. (Self-Organized Learning Environment)
In the final year leading up to release, a self-organized learning environment is
constructed with the individual which specifically targets the barriers the member will be
facing in reentry and equips them to tackle those barriers with confidence. This phase
includes the following steps:
Discipleship & Mentoring:
• Work with Mentoring4Succsess to assign a mentor
• Regularly scheduled meetings with mentor
• Professional assessments of every BIBR/LEAD graduate
• Coaching by CLDC (Certified Leadership Development Coach)
• Work with BIBR/LEAD grad to prepare a long-term growth plan including education,
employment, and release goals through our short-timer preparation program
Financial & Employment Skills:
• Attend Balanced, a 12-week class about financial management, budgeting and
how to obtain and maintain financial health
• Request credit score information from all three credit bureaus; analyze, plan and
implement credit recovery strategies
• Prepare resumes that describe work history and begin meeting with an employment
specialist to nail down future job possibilities
• Attend Jobs for Life, a 12-week class on how to get, keep & excel in a job
• Secure a private industry job if available
Release Preparation:
• Participate in a S.O.L.E. that allows each BIBR graduate to focus on learning specific to
his/her employment goals
• Participate in workshops geared toward specific work and life skills
• Meet with employment specialists while in prison to discuss actual job possibilities and
fine-tune resumes and practice interview skills
• Participate in Reentry Mindset that covers the 12 Reentry Challenges
• Set critical appointments to attend upon release (driver’s license, job interviews)
