was really interested in comparative literature. I
didn’t really know what it was, but it sounded
really cool. The head of the comparative literature
program has been so incredibly supportive whether
it’s doing an independent study or helping me start
my own journal on campus. It’s called Comparative
Woman; its about bridging the gap between artists
and academics. I started from the ground with no
funding, which has been an amazing experience,
and everyone has been so supportive in this program; its so diverse. Everyone’s really creative, and
it’s allowed me to be creative. I’m also a poet, so I’ve
really gained the confidence to do open mics and
publish things. I think my biggest thing is if you
don’t see it, create it.
