Venmo Charity Profile Overview
The purpose of this document is to provide a brief overview of the charity
profile offered by Venmo. Given how quickly technology changes, some of these
points may be outdated since it was drafted in April 2023.
Venmo is a popular payment processing app that some parishes, missions and
campus centers, schools (organization) are choosing to offer as a payment
processing option. The Archdiocese’s finance department will not provide
support for Venmo since it is not on the recommended vendor list.
In spite of the cautions of using Venmo, positive feedback from those groups
using Venmo primarily are about ease of use, increasing the chance of more
people participating and/or donating, and reaching a population that may not
be participating or donating at all.
Currently, Venmo has the following three options:
1) Charity Profile - As of September 1, 2022, Venmo offers charity profiles
for non-profit organizations (501c3) that have created an account and
confirmed their charity status with the parent company, PayPal. By
confirming the entity’s charity status with PayPal, the entity gains the
ability to create a charity profile on Venmo.
