DE&I EMEA Year End Review 2023 - Flipbook - Page 14
Expanding data analysis through our partnership with Pirical
Data is key to identifying ways we can support our people from underrepresented
backgrounds. We have worked with Pirical, a data analytics company in the UK since
2019 and are one of nine firms who originally participated in their cross legal sector
ethnicity benchmarking project. The benchmark shows our progression over a
five-year rolling period on recruitment, representation, retention and progression of
our ethnic minority lawyers and Business Services professionals, as well as providing
comparison to our competitors. This year, we upgraded our package to include global
data, enabling us to more easily report our progress across the EMEA region as a whole.
In addition, aggregate data on utilisation and work allocation will enable us to measure
how equitably work is being allocated by gender and across a broader range of diversity
characteristics, where legally permitted. These insights will be invaluable in monitoring
our processes to ensure equitable access to high-quality work.
Network interventions
Working closely with the HR team, our REAHL network conducts confidential exit
interviews with leavers who have self-identified as belonging to a racial or ethnic
minority. This is in addition to the firm’s standard exit interview procedure to help us
understand any aspects related to race/ethnicity which may have been a factor in their
decision to leave the firm. The REAHL Steerco will review any key themes emerging from
the interviews to share with UK leadership (anonymously) and use this information in
planning future REAHL activities.
Self-ID
Understanding our people’s background and make-up
is powerful for many reasons. Our Self-ID campaign in
the UK enables us to track the progress our people are
making through the organization. By examining data
trends, we can better identify any barriers to progression
as well as understand how representative we are of
our local communities and client demographics.
We are increasingly being asked by clients to provide evidence that we are putting
forward diverse teams to pitch for and work on their matters. Being able to share
this information shows the progress we are making and that we are a firm that models
their values.
