When responding to a suspected opioid overdose, EMS calls often generate responses from partnering
agencies. Deputies carry naloxone (aka Narcan), a medication designed to help reverse the effects of an
overdose within minutes. When a deputy arrives on the scene of a person experiencing an opioid overdose,
they are trained to safely deploy naloxone in hopes of reversing the effects of the overdose. Naloxone can
be safely administered as many times as needed without interfering with other medical interventions.
