Talented cellist Arjun Singh chose to continue their
cello education with the Elder Conservatorium
of Music primarily due to Edith Salzmann’s
appointment at the University of Adelaide.
the world. In Italy, at one of the most prestigious
summer courses in Europe, Arjun learnt from worldclass soloist, David Geringas, and gained insights
into how he approachs music as a discipline.
“After having a few lessons with Edith at a music
festival she ran in New Zealand, I knew I wanted to
start my tertiary education with her,” said Arjun.
At a music festival in France, Arjun learnt from an
old colleague of Edith’s, and now plans to undertake
further studies with her in Paris in the future.
“When I found out that she was going to be
appointed at the Elder Conservatorium, there
wasn’t a question in my mind that the University
of Adelaide was where I wanted to go.”
The first musician in their family, Arjun studied at
the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School,
and recently embarked on an incredible journey
across Europe, performing at classical music
festivals and participating in masterclasses.
From classes in Germany to a music festival in Italy,
Arjun spent several weeks learning from classical
music professors alongside students from all around

Arjun said that studying with Edith was a
key part of gaining this opportunity.
“She helped me to find the courses and teachers, and
apply for what would truly suit me as a musician.”
