Clean renewable energy and an educated workforce make Manitoba a top pick for business
W
hen it comes to what
makes this province a
great place to do business,
Manitoba’s Top Employers
(2025) have lots to say. With its abundance
of green energy, central location and wide
array of stable industries from high-tech
to insurance, there’s much to love.
For Julie Robichaud, executive assistant
at Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg, the
people are what makes Manitoba the best
place to do business.
“Manitoba lives up to its license plate
— Friendly Manitoba,” says Robichaud. “I
am biased, but we have some of the best
people working here. Who else could say
they work with engineers who design and
develop Black Brant rockets for NASA and
satellites for the Canadian Space Agency?
We have an amazing team.”
Sabrina Govier, vice president, people
solutions, at Assiniboine Credit Union
Ltd., says Manitoba has one of Canada’s
strongest and most diversified economies,
with low costs for doing business. For
instance, commercial and residential
property is less expensive in Manitoba
and Winnipeg than most other provinces
and cities, making it ideal for established
or new businesses.
“With three universities and several
trade and technical colleges, Manitoba
has a ready-made workforce for any sector
of the economy,” says Govier.
“Additionally, its natural beauty and cultural richness — from NHL hockey to
world-class music, dance, theatre and museums — make it a great place for people
to live, work and play. And being in the
centre of Canada, it’s a great home base
for national and international travel.”
What Teghan Matlashewski, human
resources advisor at Efficiency Manitoba,
likes is how Manitoba balances small
community feel with big aspirations and
achievements.
“We’re a connected community where
the degrees of separation are few,” she
says. “We rally behind the causes and
needs of our neighbours. Manitobans
inherently know how working together
produces far greater results than anyone
working alone can accomplish.
“We regularly participate in Team
Manitoba initiatives that help attract new
businesses to our province. We’re also
proud to collaborate with existing businesses, helping all implement energy
efficiency improvements to lower their
operating costs and increase their
competitiveness.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see the
meaningful difference your work can have
for your community — from an economic
development, reconciliation, affordability,
and environmental sustainability
perspective.”
