Aboyne Highland Games
This year, Leiths sponsored a number of shows, including the Aboyne
Highland Games and the Glenfinnan Highland Gathering.
The Aboyne Highland Games are held on the first Saturday
of August in the heart of Royal Deeside. Having formed in 1867, the
village of Aboyne and the traditions of the Games are steeped in history.
The village was founded by Charles Gordon, 1st Earl of Aboyne in 1671,
who, in the same year, rebuilt the west wing of Aboyne Castle.
The games include tossing the caber, heavy weights, tug-o-war, a hill
race, along with Highland dancing and piping, aswell as children’s
competitions and events.
Glenfinnan Highland Games is held in August each year, its
stunning location surrounded by mountains and the railway viaduct
where the steam train goes by every day.

Floating Offshore
Wind Conference –
P&J Live, Aberdeen
4/5 October 2023
Stephen Stewart, Leith’s Concrete General Manager and Colin Ortlepp,
Planning and Development Manager, recently attended the Floating
Offshore Wind conference at the P&J Live in Aberdeen along with
representatives of Kishorn Port. They were there to promote
opportunities for Leiths to supply concrete and aggregates for the
manufacture of floating foundation structures for offshore wind
turbines similar to those used in the Kincardine Floating Wind Farm
off the coast of Stonehaven.

There is currently a great deal of interest in using Kishorn Port to
manufacture these floating structures, many of which are going to be
in concrete with some weighing up to 10,000 tonnes each.
The event was attended by over 2,000 people from wind development
companies, suppliers, manufacturers and government, both from
the UK and overseas. It was a great event for Leiths to showcase its
abilities and previous experience in recent major concrete projects
such as those at Aberdeen South Harbour and the Tullos Energy from
Waste plant.
