Antibodies
Reagents that recognise key immune markers, such as immunoglobulins,
are key in immunodiagnostics. They are applied in two very different ways.
Firstly, detecting abnormal levels of immunoglobulins in the bloodstream
may be used to diagnose multiple myeloma, a tumour of antibody-producing
plasma cells, and measurement of specific antibodies to proteins that are
auto-immune targets is important in assessing autoimmunity. Immuquest
