In 2015, Canon John O’Toole14 had initiated designs for
new nameboards in the West bay of the North aisle. In
2021, Canon Richard Hearn15 had accepted a gift from
the EOHS, a triptych icon painted on Serbian limewood
by the iconographer Peter Murphy: the panels depict Our
Lady of Palestine, flanked by St George and St Helena.
Finally16 we incorporated their gift in 2023: along with
the side altars, we included a scheme here for the
nameboards with the triptych beside the Holy Door.
Cowderoy’s stone tablet was demounted and cramped
higher up on the same wall of the North-West aisle.
Below, from 2015 to 2023, the entry of pilgrims has been signified by the Holy Door, its oak leaves re-echoed in Louth’s commemorative
nameboards, each detailed to complement Peter Murphy’s exquisite, scholarly icon for Our Lady of Palestine with SS Helena & George
