Living in Slough
As one of the few surviving towns during World War II’s Blitz, Slough became home to thousands of
Londoners and has since grown to become a prosperous area with the Slough trading estate being the
single largest privately owned industrial estate in Europe. Spanning over some 486 acres, the trading
estate is home to several global brand name retailers.
Also home to Pinewood Studios, Slough has seen the recording of many films including the James Bond
franchise and the new Star Wars films
Slough is often described as a fusion of different cultures, an urban town, buzzing with vitality. It is also a
place of surprises, with many parks, open spaces and waterways to complement the urban feel of the
town. The town has a strong and growing reputation in the region for leisure facilities, shopping and public
events.
The modern town centre is compact and vibrant with a pedestrianised high street that stretches for more
than a mile.
The Queensmere and the Observatory Shopping Centres, as well as the town centre, include many of the
major retailers such as Debenhams, Marks and Spencer, Primark, Next, TK Maxx, Boots and WH Smith.
