New Vehicles and Equipment
WE ARE STILL FACING MAJOR CHALLENGES WITH FLEET REPLACEMENTS, DUE TO CONSTANTLY RISING
PRICES AND NO LET-UP IN LENGTHY LEAD TIMES.
In August, we placed orders for HGV’s and trailers, scheduled for delivery almost 12 months in advance. These include a Volvo FH16 650 tractor unit for Leiths
heavy haulage/lowloader operation; a DAF XF tractor unit and Feldbinder ADR tanker for Leiths bitumen operation; two Feldbinder powder tankers for Leiths
FEMAS, filler and cement operations; and four DAF XDC and two Renault C Range insulated tippers for Leiths asphalt and aggregate operations.
Markon has seen investment with orders for three Renault D Range trucks for line marking operations, a Renault C Range for their specialist surfacing
operations and a Volvo FM road-sweeper.
Although this may not seem like much in relation to our fleet of around 400 road-going assets, it represents a considerable investment with further vans and
HGVs still to be ordered for 2024.
New Roadmarking Vehicle
Markon were pleased to take delivery of a new purpose-built road marking/
paint vehicle in September 2023.
Supplied by Somerford Equipment, the new
vehicle carries equipment for the installation
of both thermoplastic and paint markings. A
side-loading platform allows safe and easy
loading/unloading of the paint machines to
eliminate manual handling. In a first for Markon,
the truck is equipped with three vertical
pre-heaters – this triple arrangement offers
flexibility with regard to material selection, with
different materials in each boiler, minimising time
and waste when switching from one product to another.
A recent addition to the Markon fleet is a Renault D Range truck
with Somerford road marking equipment.
With one other vehicle currently in build, and three others to be built in the
昀椀rst part of 2024, this investment will bring the Markon 昀氀eet up to date –
particularly important with more Low Emission Zones coming into force
in 2024.
