exorbitant rents for school buildings. While the
average charter school budget may spend an
average of 14% on building costs, one charter
school corporation spends up to 40% of the
school budget for leasing costs. These building
leases are bundled and sold to real estate
investment trusts, siphoning dollars from public
education. The rate of return is good for Wall
Street, but not for our students.
There is heightened awareness of the need for
judicious community policing which serves all
members of the public. Fairness in policing is
an issue that must be evaluated and addressed
by every local government.
When you consider the responsibility of local
government for land use decisions, and their
stewardship of education and public safety
budgets, it’s easy to see why many have an
interest in influencing local races.
