2.1 THE BRAGG REPORT

Following the Loddon Bridge Falsework Collapse in 1972 Professor Stephen Bragg was
commissioned to investigate the causes and provide recommendations to prevent
recurrence. Many of the 27 principal recommendations were included in the first edition
of BS5975 issued in 1982. The first edition only referred to Falsework.

The Committee and its studies showed that historical failures in Great Britain and the
