A.2 Design brief for a suspended floor in a building
A design brief for a suspended floor in a building might include the following elements:
a)
schedule of drawings of the permanent works;
b)
programme for the construction of the permanent structure;
c)
plan of area below, showing type of construction of any permanent works already in place;
d)
data on the ability of the floor or ground below to accept the loads transmitted through the
falsework;
e)
any loads that are to be applied to the permanent works before the falsework can be removed;
f)
construction method for the permanent works, defining:
1)
sequence of timing of load applications; and
2)
positions of construction joints;
g)
exposure to wind for assessment of wind loads;
h)
any loads that are to be applied to the falsework not covered by general allowances, such as
those caused by a particular method of concreting, stacking of materials, access across slab or
attachments to the falsework;
i)
general specification of the falsework components to be used; and
j)
criteria that determine the stripping times of the formwork and dismantling times of the
falsework.
A.3 Design brief for trenches, excavations and cofferdams
A design brief for trenches, excavations and cofferdams might include the following elements:
a)
b)
details of where and what is to be constructed (permanent works/utility details) and any
preferred methodology:
1)
drawings, plans, maps, digital files, etc., of the working area, including information about
any likely existing foundations (depth, distance, loading) or existing buried services that the
temporary works scheme needs to be configured to avoid; and
2)
drawings, plans, maps, digital files, etc., of layout and preferred dimensions of trench/
excavation (depth, plan dimensions, service diameter, size and position of manholes), or
length of individual section of service (to determine spacing of props);
preferred methodology:
1)
any preferred method of working, e.g. whether there is sufficient space to allow the trench/
excavation to be battered/stepped or if support is required;
2)
if support is required, whether there is a preference for internal propping or external
anchorage;
3)
peferred position of support (e.g. prop positions) to avoid clashes with permanent works or
on site storage areas;
4)
preferred support equipment and type of support, i.e. proprietary support system, such as a
trench box or bespoke system using framing, sheet piles, contiguous piles, king posts, etc.;
5)
details of any existing equipment available on site (e.g. sizes and grades of steelwork or
sheet piles); if proprietary equipment is to be used, details of preferred supplier;
