Agencies rely onvolunteers and case managers to helpfamilies learn new cultural norms and navigateeveryday tasks.Helping Our New Neighbors ResettleProviding Pathways to Economic ProsperityResettlement work begins the moment afamily arrives at the airport—often with littlenotice for the resettlement agency. CatholicCharities, Diocese of Nashville and the NashvilleInternational Center for Empowerment (NICE)provide initial core services to newly arrivedindividuals and families. Once agencies receivenotice of a family’s approaching arrival, theyquickly act to secure and furnish an apartmentfor the family—who is usually carrying just asmall bag of belongings—helping them feel safeand comfortable after their long journey. Familiescomplete critical tasks such as applying forSocial Security cards and short-term benefits andreceive medical screenings and immunizations.For many clients, navigating public transportation,Our partners work to ensure their clients havethe tools and resources they need for economicsuccess. And a critical piece of self-sufficiencyis employment. Often times people arrive witheducation and professional degrees from theirhome countries, and our partners help translatethose credentials to employment in the U.S.Exhausted from the trauma of their journey—ofleaving their homes—they need comfort, safety,housing and food.
